Gareth Davies MS has today secured a major win for Denbigh following LINK’s formal recommendation to establish a permanent cash deposit solution in the town. This decision follows Mr Davies' sustained campaign, including the submission of fresh data and direct engagement with LINK to challenge an earlier assessment which had concluded against a banking hub for the area.
The reassessment has resulted in a commitment to deliver a business-focused deposit service that will allow for secure cash deposits, including notes. The service will operate Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and will be free of charge for those with personal current accounts.
This provision will be coordinated by Cash Access UK on behalf of the UK’s major banking firms, including Barclays, HSBC UK, Lloyds Banking Group, NatWest, Santander, and others. If firms choose not to use Cash Access UK, they will be independently responsible for fulfilling the recommendations.
The service is expected to be operational within three months of LINK sharing its assessment, or within three months of any potential review outcome if requested.
The decision marks a significant development for Denbigh’s high street resilience and access to essential financial services, particularly for businesses that rely on local banking facilities.
Commenting, Gareth Davies MS said:
“I welcome this decision by LINK, which will make a real difference to Denbigh. After a long period of uncertainty, this announcement brings some much-needed clarity and reassurance to local residents and businesses.
“I’d like to thank all residents and business who submitted evidence to me which allowed me to demonstrate that Denbigh’s needs were not being met and that something had to change. I'm pleased that LINK listened and responded accordingly.
“This isn’t just about banking; it’s about supporting the high street, protecting jobs, and making sure that those who rely on face-to-face services, particularly older people and small traders, are not left behind.”
