Denbigh Men’s Shed officially launched ‘Incredible Edible, Denbigh’ this week, attended by Gareth Davies, MS, Katie Trent from Social Farms & Gardens Wales, and representatives from the Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council (DVSC).

The vision of Incredible Edible is to create kind, confident and connected communities through the power of food and invites residents to get involved in growing fresh produce locally.

Project Director, Nathan Sarea said: “We are delighted to officially launch this initiative and become part of the family of 8 Incredible Edible groups in North Wales

“With the help of Social Farms & Gardens we successfully applied for a ‘Together for Our Planet’ award, through the National Lottery.  The grant enables us to grow more at our stunning gardens and grounds at Trefeirian and then move the seedlings on to other community growing spaces throughout the town in Denbigh

“Setting up Incredible Edible Denbigh will provide our community with fresh locally grown food which helps combat the rising cost of living. It’s also a great way to stay active, to make new friends and to take local action on climate change!”

Denbigh Men’s Shed has been operating at Trefeirian for nearly 8 years and have long been aiming to demonstrate the benefits that accessing natural spaces has on people’s health and well-being.

Nathan added “Now that we’ve got the project up and running and the food is growing we are putting out the call for people to come and get involved and to help make a difference”

Commenting on the launch Gareth Davies MS said:

“I’m pleased to see this new branch of the Incredible Edible project being set up at the site here in Denbigh, I welcome this opportunity for local people to be able to get involved in growing fresh produce, to make new connections and learn new skills.

“I wish to offer my congratulations to Nathan and the team for a successful launch and encourage members of the local community to come and get involved.”

The Incredible Edible Denbigh project is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, from 10am-2pm at Trefeirian, on Love Lane in Denbigh. Membership of the scheme is open to all and there are a range of different activities happening throughout the week.
