Ty Melyn Mental Health Hospital

Member of the Senedd for Vale of Clwyd, Gareth Davies MS, recently visited the site of Seren Gobaith Mental Health Hospital (formerly Ty Melyn) situated at Brighton Road in Rhyl, which is currently under construction and due for completion by the end of October this year.

Seren Gobaith Hospital will be a privately registered independent hospital providing 24-hour care, with nursing for 62 adults with a diagnosis of mental illness (and possible Dual Diagnosis), providing services to both men and women. Wynne Construction were contracted to build the new facility on the site of a former benefits office with the environment around the hospital designed to create a modern comfortable homely atmosphere with individual en-suite facilities in all the bedrooms.

Gareth was given a tour of the site to see the range of modern facilities and services they will offer, and to learn about their plans for the recruitment of 150 local people and the use of local suppliers for hospital requirements.

The Hospital is currently recruiting support workers, nurses, social workers, occupational therapist, admin support, kitchen staff etc. If you are interested to join the team – please email your CV to [email protected].

Following his visit, Gareth said:

“It was a pleasure to see the progress on the construction of Seren Gobaith, a new high-spec independent mental health hospital nearing completion in Rhyl.

“We are currently in the midst of a mental health crisis, and with NHS services in North Wales overburdened, the opening of this new facility can’t come soon enough.

“I was encouraged to learn about the broad range services they will provide with modern facilities catered to the patient’s needs, and the significant employment and economic benefits they will bring to the area.”

John Bromfield, on behalf of the Seren Gobaith Executive Team, added:

“The hospital will bring 150 jobs to north Wales. Currently many Welsh patients are receiving mental health care within hospitals in England, at cost to the Welsh taxpayer.

“We aim to allow these people to come home to Wales and be closer to their families, communities and culture. In addition, we have established a number of community initiatives.

“The first is an employment scheme with the Welsh veteran’s charities - Change Step and Woody’s Lodge. This scheme will provide jobs for our veterans as we acknowledge their important transferable skills and service to our nation.

“Seren Gobaith will become a beacon of hope for positive mental health and well-being.”
